Annafest Beer Festival Tour!
In addition to all of the great things we do on our Munich & Bamberg Brewery Tours, as part of our late-July tours we'll introduce you to Annafest! Annafest is a beer festival that takes place once a year in the forested hills above the town of Forchheim in Upper Franconia (northern Bavaria). The 2023 festival will be the 183rd anniversary of this event.
With "only" 500,000 attendees each year, it may not be as big as Oktoberfest, but with fewer attendees and more breweries - 18 of them! - Annafest is a lot more accessible than Oktoberfest and arguably more fun!
Like many towns in Bavaria, the hills of Forchheim are honeycombed with beer cellars that brewers dug into the hillside 400+ years ago in order to lager their beer and keep it cold throughout the warm summer months. In Forchheim, this area is known as the Kellerwald, which translates to "Forest of Cellars", and it's in this beautiful setting that Annafest is held each year.
Dates: In 2023, Annafest is scheduled to begin on Friday, July 21st and run through Monday, August 1st.
